And in a post on Facebook MP for Oropouche West Dave Tancoo, in whose constituency the murders took place, said this have come to be the norm in Trinidad and Tobago.

He said he agreed with his political leader Kamla Persad-Bissessar to have “stand your ground” laws to deal with murders especially home invasions and give citizens “a fighting chance” against the criminal element.

The CoP in a release on Tuesday evening also offered condolences to the victims’ families and friends.

She said, “We know that the family, the community and the entire nation at large are reeling from the negative impact of this brazen act of lawlessness, which causes persons to be gripped by fear as they try to continue in their daily routines. We will not shirk our responsibility, but use all our available resources to arrest and charge the perpetrators, and restore the sense of peace and safety to the public.”

Harewood-Christopher said a team from the Victim and Witness Support Unit engaged relatives to provide counselling and assistance to cope with the trauma of the incident and a home visit with officers from the Penal district was scheduled geared towards supporting the family members that were present at the time of the incident.

The probable causes for the crime were being developed, the release stated.

Any person with information can communicate directly through any police station or through the TTPS information hotlines at 555, 999, 911 or 800-TIPS.
