A 28-year-old manager of a resort in Matura is granted $400,000 in bail with a surety by a Master of the High Court for possession of a pistol and ammunition.

Chervon Hernandez, of High School Road, Matura, pleaded not guilty to the charges when he appeared virtually on Wednesday before Master Margaret Sookraj-Goswami and was also ordered to report to his local police station twice per week as part of his bail conditions.

He was charged with the possession of a nine-millimetre pistol and 11 rounds of nine-millimetre ammunition.

The matter was transferred to the Sangre Grande Magistrates’ Court to be heard on April 23rd, 2024.
Hernandez was arrested on March 31 and later charged on April 1 by PC Caraballo, of the Matura Police Station (MPS), who led enquiries into the alleged seizure of the weapons following a police response to a report of a dispute in the district.

According to police reports, at 1.20 am on March 31, MPS police officers responded to a report of a dispute at a resort in the area.

While speaking with several people at the location, officers observed a male suspect clutching his pants pocket area.

Police became suspicious and approached the suspect. They subsequently carried out a search of the man which allegedly resulted in a pistol outfitted with a magazine and 11 rounds of nine millimetre ammunition were found and seized.
