A RESIDENT of Bejucal Road, Cunupia, is using water flowing from a pipeline leak to tend to his crops.

The resident in a video posted on Facebook showed a leak that he claims has been there for the past three months.

He said, “This leak here, about two to three months now. Since that, I planted up a lil’ crops here . Instead of the water continuing wasting, I plant up things as it is leaking.”

He said the leak was repaired.

However, he said, “As they left, it started back to leak when they fixed it. I was right there.”

Residents of Bejucal Road had protested earlier on Monday morning calling for better roads, drainage, and leaks to be fixed.

Member of Parliament for Chaguanas West Dinesh Rambally had visited the protestors also calling for State intervention.

In response Public Utilities Minister Marvin Gonzales had sent a statement from the Water and Sewerage Authority (WASA) to AZPNews.com.

WASA stated that presently, there were no leaks in the area.

WASA stated, “At present, our database shows no pending leak for this area.”

The authority also stated that the area’s technical officer visited the area. “He also noted there are no noticeable leaks on the surface and/or in the drains.”

Rambally in a Facebook post said he was disappointed in the minister’s comments.

He added, “It is also frustrating to read the official reply from WASA saying there are ‘no noticeable leaks on the surface and/or in the drains of Bejucal Road’ as of today’s date and a recent inspection having been carried out.

Rambally said, “I continue to emphasise that a collaborative approach is needed by all relevant authorities to get this right for the people.”
