KIDNAPPED Chaguanas businessman Kartikay Ramsundar has been reunited with his loved ones. No ransom was paid and two suspects are detained.
He was rescued on Monday by officers of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit (AKU), Special Operations Response Team (SORT) and Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) police stated in a release on Tuesday.
Ramsundar, who owns a mariner in Felicity, was abducted at his business place on October 13.
Police reported that on November 8, police executed an operation which was coordinated by Deputy Commissioner of Police, Mc Donald Jacob, and included personnel attached to the AKU, led by Assistant Superintendent of Police, Romel Morales. The AKU was also assisted by officers of the SORT, IATF, and other arms of national security.
The exercise was initiated in the Central and South-Western Divisions. During the operation, Ramsundar was rescued and taken to a medical facility where he was medically examined and subsequently reunited with his family.
At 2.40 pm on October 13, Ramsundar, was allegedly accosted by three men, one armed with a firearm who abducted him and forced him into a dark coloured Honda Civic. The businessman was then taken away. The vehicle was subsequently found burnt-out along Bernard Road, Felicity. Investigations are ongoing.
President of the Chaguanas Chamber of Industry and Commerce Richie Sookhai said he was relieved that Ramsundar was found alive and he commended the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service for returning him to his family.
Sookhai cautioned citizens to be aware of their surroundings especially going into the Christmas season when criminal activities tend to increase.
He also urged members of the community to work together with police officers to inform of any crime in the area.
