Police Officer Charged for 2018 Murder

A POLICE officer has been charged with murder three years after a fatal shooting of Yasin Richardson, 22, of Wallerfield, Arima.

PC Anil Randy Gooding, 30, was charged with the offence of murder related to  shooting and made an appearance at the Arima Magistrate’s Court today (Tuesday). The matter has been adjourned to November 2.

Gooding was last attached to the Cumuto Police Station.

A press release by the Police Complaints Authority (PCA) on Tuesday stated that on the June 25, 2018 the PCA initiated an investigation into shooting which took place in the vicinity of Tumpuna Road, Arima on the June 23, 2018.

The PCA stated, “Following a detailed investigation by the PCA, recommendations were made on the 11th February, 2019 to the CoP for disciplinary action and to the DPP for criminal charges of murder and misbehaviour in public office against four officers involved in the incident.”

The Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) in a release stated the accused was arrested by Insp Maharaj of HBI Region 3, in Arima, on Monday  and charged with the offence on that same date following advice received from Director of Public Prosecutions Roger Gaspard, SC.

Police stated that investigations were supervised by acting Supt Dhillpaul and Insp Chattie, who were previously attached to Homicide Bureau of Investigations (HBI) Region 2.
