FOR this week, seniors in  Point Fortin will have access to vaccination services.

It is being organised by the Point Fortin Borough Corporation.

In a press release on Monday, the corporation stated that burgesses 65 years and over will be allowed to call their local councillor to have vaccination appointments arranged on their behalf.

The vaccination initiative began from Monday and will run till Friday.

The corporation is also providing transport  for the seniors  from their homes to the Point Fortin Health Centre and back.

Last week, councillor Bryana Fortune-John kick started the process in her  electoral district of Cap-de-ville/Fanny Village, by compiling the names of over 65’s, to assist those who had not yet been vaccinated.

The move was welcomed by the Council and the service was then extended throughout the entire borough.

How to book an appointment

Older burgesses from any of the six electoral districts who are willing to be vaccinated, should first call their local councillor, giving their name, address, age, date of birth, and contact number. This information when compiled daily, is given to the local health facility to have scheduled appointments arranged.

Those with finalised appointments, will be contacted and transportation sent to their homes so as to be taken to the health centre.

From 8am and 2pm, the health facility will accommodate three persons per hour, and persons will remain under observation for approximately 30 minutes after the shot.

All Covid-19 health protocols will be in place to ensure a safe journey to and from the health centre, the release stated.

Mayor Saleema Thomas said such a service was in keeping with the Council’s overall vision of catering to the special needs of older persons in the community, especially during a pandemic.
