PRIME Minister Dr Keith Rowley is rushed to West Shore Private Medical Hospital in Cocorite on Friday.

There were initial reports that it was due to a cardiac issue, but a release later noted that he had “some discomfort.”

He was admitted to West Shore around 5 pm.

Rowley is scheduled to host a press conference at the Diplomatic Centre, St Ann’s on Saturday at 2.30 pm, his first for 2021.

On the Facebook page of the Office of the Prime Minister, National Security Minister Stuart Young posted that Dr Rowley was taken to the private hospital as a precautionary measure after he had some discomfort.

Young, who is also a Minister in the OPM, said, “At this time, we are pleased to advise that the Prime Minister is in good spirits.

“Out of an abundance of caution he will be kept for observation and further tests will be conducted.”

In a media statement shortly after he was admitted, the People’ National Movement (PNM) public relations officer Laurel Lezama-Lee Sing said party members were praying for their leader’s speedy recovery.

She said, “Dr Rowley has undergone a series of tests and is resting comfortably. The PNM thanks all of the thousands of concerned citizens and other persons, regionally and internationally who have reached out to offer support, love and words of prayer for our beloved Prime Minister and political leader. We wish Prime Minister Dr Rowley a swift and complete recovery.”
