Only Pharmacies Open Until 10am on 2 Public Holidays This Week

ONLY funerals and weddings will take place during the Indian Arrival Day and Corpus Christi public holidays on Monday and Thursday respectfully.

This was revealed in The Emergency Powers (No. 2) Regulations 2021 that came into effect from Saturday after it was signed by President Paula-Mae Weekes.

Regulation 14 stated that during these two public holidays only pharmacies will be allowed to be open and funeral and weddings will take place, following protocols already established, during the time  5.01am and 10.01am. That is ten people will be allowed in the church and at the cremation or burial but only five will be permitted in a place of worship providing streaming service.

The regulations also added that hardware stores including electrical and plumbing establishments shall be closed during the period of the State of Emergency in effect to help curb the spread of the Covid-19.

And in keeping with Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley’s announcement that there will be no selling of the cooked food, Regulation 11 stated the restaurants shall remain closed and shall not supply or distribute prepared meals for sale to:

(a) supermarkets, groceries, markets, green grocers, bakeries, poultry depots;

(b) retail membership discount stores;

(c) wholesale stores for the provision of food, medicine or other necessities of life;

(d) pharmacies; or

(e) convenience marts attached to petroleum stations, except where authorised by the Minister.

The new Regulations also added that the courts could function within the period the the 9pm to 5am curfew was not in operation.

It gave effect to operations of the Judiciary, the District Courts including the Petty Civil Courts and the Coroner’s Courts, the Supreme Court of Judicature, the Industrial Court and the Environmental Commission, the Equal Opportunities Tribunal and the Tax Appeal Board.
