A YOUNG mother and her three-month-old child die in an accident on Friday evening.
Police reported that around 2.15 pm, Sacha Surajbally, 21, of Colamine, Sangre Grande, was driving a white Nissan B15, heading north along the Manzanilla/Mayaro Main Road, when she swerved and lost control of the vehicle.
The vehicle ran off the road and collided with a light-pole.
Surajbally and her daughter Soriah died at the scene.
The baby’s grandfather Kay Surujbally, 60, was in the backseat with the baby who was in a booster seat.
Soriah’s father, Andre Seepersad, 31, was in the front seat.
Police stated that a passer-by alerted Command Centre and Ag/CPL Singh along with PC Baran PC Lincoln responded and assisted by AG Fire Sub Ramsundar of the Sangre Grande Fire Station and EHS personnel.
District Medical Officer Dr Belgrave viewed the both bodies and pronounced them dead and ordered them removed to the Sangre Grande Hospital Mortuary pending a post mortem at the Mt Hope Hospital mortuary.
