A HAZARDOUS seas warning is in effect.

The Trinidad and Tobago Meteorological Service (TTMS) issued a yellow-level alert on Monday.

The warning took effect at 4 pm on Monday and will remain in place until 6 pm on Thursday.

TTMS said sea conditions along northern and eastern exposed coastal areas, including offshore regions, are expected to deteriorate to rough conditions, with wave heights exceeding 2.5 metres and reaching up to 3.0 metres.

“This is due to relatively strong winds agitating the sea surface, leading to large waves and potentially dangerous sea conditions,” the service said.

TTMS warned that the rough seas could be particularly dangerous for offshore activities, including fishing and other small-craft operations.

With spring tides present, conditions at seawalls along exposed coastlines may worsen at high tide. There is also an increased risk of strong rip currents, posing a serious hazard to swimmers and beachgoers. Rip currents can be life-threatening, even for experienced swimmers.

All marine interests are advised to exercise extreme caution. Beachgoers are urged to follow the instructions of lifeguards and other authorities.

The public is advised to monitor official weather and marine updates at www.metoffice.gov.tt/forecast.
