AN elderly woman is dead after being shot and chopped by a relative at her Moruga home on Wednesday morning.
Sylda Mudie, 82, was murdered by the male relative who is a former special reserve policeman.
Her son Derek Mudie, 56, is hospitalised after suffering a chop wound to his head.
Police said that when they arrived at Edward Trace, Basse Terre, just after 10.35 am, they saw the relative sitting in front the house with a firearm in front of him.
He was told not to pick up the firearm, but he took it and pointed it at the officers. Police shot at him and he taken to hospital where he is in critical condition.
Reports also indicated that Mudie had returned on Saturday from the United States with her son.
