THE Trinidad and Tobago Coast Guard holds at least two nationals who went into Venezuelan waters and were returning with “huge amounts of shrimp and fish.”

Speaking at the virtual news conference on Monday morning, Young said, “(During the) early hours of this morning we picked up I think is either two or three nationals of Trinidad and Tobago who have crossed the border went to Venezuela and were coming back with huge amounts of fish and shrimp in complete contravention of not only our Covid regulation by crossing the border without permission but also the Customs Act.”

He said these operations, jointly involving the Coast Guard, the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service, Immigration and Customs, continue to take place and last week some Venezuelans were held in TT waters.

Young said when they were interdicted, they pulled a plug in their vessel causing it to sink.

He said they were handed over to Venezuelan authorities.
