Man Shot, Marijuana Seized by Police in East Dry River

OFFICERS of the Inter-Agency Task Force arrested one man and seized 1.1 kilogrammes of marijuana during an anti-crime exercise in the Port-of-Spain district on Monday.

Police said during the exercise they saw two men walking along Bath Street, East Dry River and tried to apprehend them.

They said one of the men opened fire on them and the officers in accordance with the Use of Force policy, shot at the gunman, hitting him once in the leg.

Police said the other man picked up the gun and ran away.

After a search of the area, police said they discovered two brown packets containing 1.1 kilogrammes of marijuana and $370 in cash. The drug has an estimated street value of $11,000.

The suspect, a 35-year-old of Bath Street, East Dry River was arrested in connection with the findings and the incident.

Investigations are still ongoing.
