MEMBER of Parliament for Mayaro Rushton Paray is asking the government to deal with the numerous landslips in the constituency.

His comments come after residents staged a fiery protest on Friday for the second consecutive day at St Emilia Street, located next to the Rio Claro Cemetery.

In a statement, he said the constituency was in need of road repair for some 100 landslips and neither local nor central government seemed to be assisting.

Paray said, “The street has numerous landslips, endangering a few homes. This issue has persisted for some time and is emblematic of a wider problem.”

The Mayaro Rio Claro Regional Corporation (MRCRC) visited the area on numerous occasions with their engineering teams to investigate he said but despite continuous communication from the MP’s office to state agencies for direct intervention, “our pleas have fallen on deaf ears” and sufficient funding not available.

He called on both the Minister of Local Government and Rural Development and the Minister of Works and Transport to take urgent and immediate action to address road problems in that area and other landslips in the Mayaro constituency.

Paray also said, “I wish to assure the residents of the Mayaro constituency that we are actively lobbying with the agencies of the state at this time regarding all infrastructure issues.   My office will continue to work diligently and keep the public informed on all developments.”
