LAKSHMI Girls’ Hindu College has not only won another President’s Gold Medal but the most number of scholarships in the 2021 Caribbean Advanced Proficiency Examinations (CAPE).
Nikeesha Nancoo is the top-performing student in Business Studies, Creative and Performing Studies, General Studies, Language Studies, Humanities and Technical Studies. She is the sixth student in eight years to accomplish the feat at Lakshmi.
Niall Hosein, of Naparima College, is the best performing student in Environmental Studies, Information and Communication Technology, Mathematics and Natural Sciences.
Both have been recommended for the President’s Medal, a release from the Ministry of Education stated on Wednesday evening.
One hundred open and additional scholarships were awarded to students in 22 schools in Trinidad and Tobago.
Lakshmi was the only school to reach double figures with ten scholarships.
Naparima Girls’ High School and St Augustine Girls’ High School tied for second with nine each.
They were followed by Naparima College and St Joseph’s Convent, St Joseph with eight each.
Hillview College got seven with six each for Fatima College, Presentation College, San Fernando and St Joseph’s Convent, Port of Spain.
CAPE Scholarships for 2022 by school
Once again, the denominational schools took the majority.
The only government schools to attain scholarships were St George’s College (3) Queen’s Royal College (1) and Rio Claro West Secondary (1).
Because of the CAPE marking fiasco in 2020 results where it seems SBAs were weighted unscrupulously, a lot of the usual suspects were left in the cold. This would have given the non denominational schools a better chance despite the unfairness to those who were disadvantaged because of stupidity by CAPE . The non Ds failed to capitalize yet again.
