CHAIRMAN of the embattled Police Service Commission (PolSC) Bliss Seepersad who tendered in her resignation on Thursday has finally done the honourable thing says Opposition Leader Kamla Persad-Bissessar.

The Opposition Leader is now calling for Attorney General Faris Al-Rawi to follow suit.

In a statement on Thursday, Persad-Bissessar said, “The resignation of controversial Chairman, Bliss Seepersad, is the final nail in the coffin of the embattled Police Service Commission.”

Seepersad was the last member of the PolSC to resign which means the Commission has no more members.

And Persad-Bissessar called for the immediate resignation of Rawi for his alleged involvement involving former PolSC member Roger Kawalsingh and by extension  former police commissioner Gary Griffith.

Persad-Bissessar said, “This entire crisis unfolding before our eyes was birthed from his (Al Rawi) tampering with the process so he can have some influence over the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS). Evidence has also surfaced showing a close connection between himself and former PSC Member Roger Kawalsingh that still hasn’t been answered as well.”

Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley was also yet to answer whether with  President Paula-Mae Weekes to influence the PolSC process of selection of an Acting Police Commissioner, she added.

“The leadership crisis of the TTPS will no doubt hamper their ability to adequately protect and serve the population. We have already seen a spike in violent murders and it is clear that criminals are taking advantage of this present situation. This constitutional crisis lies squarely at the feet of Attorney General Faris Al Rawi and he must be held to account. He must do the honourable thing and resign,” Persad-Bissessar said.

The Opposition Leader again called on the Prime Minister to clear the air on his involvement in the matter.
