Kamla Invites Rowley to UNC Crime Talks

OPPOSITION Leader Kamla Persad-Bissessar is inviting Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley to the anti-crime talks being held by the United National Congress (UNC) across the the country.

She made the call at a political meeting in El Socorro on Monday evening.


Kamla Persad-Bissessar said, “As leaders, we owe it to the people, our supporters who elected us into office to take T&T safely forward .

“That is why tonight I am inviting the prime minister to join our anti-crime talks. Join us. Come out and meet the real people of our country. Come out and hear from the people who elected you into office. And you are welcome to join us any time, any place, anywhere to listen to real people.”

“One thing we must have in common is our love for the people and our country and again I say to the prime minister, come to the public talks. And if you don’t want to come to ours, well start your own anti-crime talks.”

She said. “Why go to Washington to listen to them… but why you going foreign? Why don’t you talk to the people here, the people who elected you to put you in office? Why you afraid to face the public?”

“Let love for T&T triumph and let’s win this war against these criminals. I remain hopeful for a positive reply and to see you soon.”

” And I hope to see you soon, not on a plane but to see you in the public and in the Parliament of T&T.”


The opposition had held anti-crime talks at La Joya Complex in St Joseph and Naparima College in San Fernando and both were well attended with many voicing their opinions about crime in the country. She said there will be another one on February 19 after Carnival but the venue has not be finalised as yet.

Persad-Bissessar also said if Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley fires Attorney General Reginald Armour, National Security Minister Fitzgerald Hinds, Police Commissioner Erla Harewood-Christopher and the Police Service Commission (PolSC) will he show that he is serious about tackling crime.

She said the prime must announce these changes when he holds his press conference on national security from 10.30 am on Tuesday.

She said, “Tomorrow Rowley must come to the country give us a new and competent Minister of National Security Attorney General Commissioner of Police Police service commission Only with these changes can he show that he is serious about tackling the violent crime crisis.”

Persad-Bissessar said, “Only with these changes can he show that he is serious about tackling the violent crime crisis.”

She also called on Dr Rowley to call general elections.
