Health Workers get $200M in Ex-gratia Payments

THE ex-gratia payments to health sector workers has begun.

A release by the Ministry of Health on Friday stated, “These payments are in keeping with the promise made by the Government of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago (GORTT) to our health sector workers who gave yeoman service during the COVID-19 pandemic.”

It stated that the payments were announced earlier in the year by Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley and provided for in the 2023 Budget by Minister of Finance, Colm Imbert.

To date, a total of $198,890,122, or over 95% of the estimated ex-gratia payments, has been paid out to over 24,000 health sector workers in Trinidad and Tobago at the Regional Health Authorities and the Ministry of Health.

When completed, the total payments are expected to be of the order of $205 million, the release stated.
