Full Lockdown in T&T Again

WITH Covid-19 cases spiraling and reaching disturbing heights, Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley has announced another lockdown in Trinidad and Tobago.

He made the announcement at a press conference in Tobago on Thursday.

The new measures that call for the closure of bars, gyms, malls and places of worship will start from midnight tonight (Thursday April 29) and be in effect until May 23.

The new measures include:

  • All restaurants and bars closed;
  • All malls closed;
  • All places of worship closed;
  • Gyms and fitness centres closed;
  • Spas and saloons closed;
  • Casinos, betting houses, theatres and clubs closed;
  • Public service operate on essential services only;
  • Three flights a day to Tobago, with 25% capacity on the ferry;
  • Tours would not be permitted;
  • Street food is allowed;
  • Outdoor activities are allowed with masking and social distancing.

At 2.39 pm on Thursday, Dr Rowley said the number of positive cases was 328.

The Ministry of Health reported 223 new Covid-19 cases on Wednesday.

This therefore means that there are now close to 2,000 active cases in the country.

Dr Rowley said, “The level of infection in T&T is reaching disturbing heights.”

He also said that the AstraZeneca vaccines T&T has in stock for a second dose will now be used to continue giving first jabs and wait for the other shipment from COVAX to start second doses.
