THE Trinidad and Tobago Electricity Commission (T&TEC) continues to be challenged in its restoration of power in certain areas due to damaged roads and flooding.
While most places in Trinidad and Tobago that lost electricity supply over the weekend have had their supply restored, there were still a few that are currently without power.
“T&TEC was able to restore supply where it was possible,” Minister of Public Utilities Marvin Gonzales said at a news conference on Monday.
He said, “As of now (11.30 am) in the Brasso Seco area, approximately 60 % of the electricity supply has been restored and we continue to work towards ensuring the full restoration of electricity supply over the next three hours or so.”
Gonzales said he was also advised by T&TEC that in Las Lomas No.1, as a result of flooded conditions, it was impossible for T&TEC to go into that area to restore that community’s electricity supply.
“However, crews continue to be mobilised. Supervisory teams are outside assessing the conditions and once we have improved conditions, T&TEC crews will go into the community to restore the electricity supply,” the minister said.
Gonzales said there was also an electricity disruption at 5 am on Monday at Bamboo No.2 and T&TEC crews have been dispatched to the area as well as to Guaracara where there was a disruption at 5.30 am.
In parts of Diego Martin, there was also a disruption at 5.26 am and T&TEC crews dispatched.
Gonzales said it was expected that by the next two to three hours, there will be a full restoration of electricity in those areas.
He said, “Once the roads become assessable, T&TEC will go into the communities and do the appropriate interventions to ensure that this community receive their electricity supply.”
