Euros match day 7 June 20, 2024
By Gerald Lutchman
Spain 1 vs 0 Italy
SPAIN were utterly dominant over a slow Italy in the clash of the giants. The Spaniards secured their spot into the second round with this win.
Unfortunately for Italy, Riccardo Calafiori’s 55th minute own goal gave Spain the lead and eventual win.
Two European giants meeting in the group stage was always a mouth-watering clash and it lived up to expectations. Italy were completely outplayed and had just three touches in the Spanish box in the first half but without a shot at goal.
England 1 vs 1 Denmark
England wasted a golden opportunity to secure a second round place and were dismal in the game. They were lucky to earn a draw. Harry Kane opened the scoring in the 18th and England were looking good.
Unfortunately under Gareth Southgate this was a signal to shrink into a shell.
England paid the price in the 34th minute when Morten Hjulmund struck a thunderous goal and the Danes were back into the contest. The English fans showed their displeasure with bursts of loud jeering and a hostile send off for Southgate.
Slovenia 1 vs 1 Serbia
Luka Jovic was very lucky to secure an equaliser in the 90 + 5 minute for Serbia to gain a point at the death. Full back Zan Karnicnik sent Slovenia into the lead in the 69th minute. This game could have sent England packing if one side had won but it gives England a big slice of hope. Serbia dominated the game with 61% possession and fifteen shots on goal along with 525 passes.
