THE lifting of the sanction on the Dragon gas field in Venezuela is welcoming news for the Energy Chamber.

The Chamber stated in a news release on Tuesday, “This presents a major opportunity for Trinidad & Tobago to begin the importation of natural gas from Venezuela.

“This was a major topic of discussion at the ongoing Trinidad & Tobago Energy Conference and specifically the panel discussion on 23rd January 2023 on integration of the southern Caribbean gas networks. The panel identified a major potential opportunity for Trinidad & Tobago to become a gas processing hub for the vast natural gas resources in Venezuela and potentially other neighbouring countries.”

On Tuesday, Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley announced that the sanction has been lifted which  prevented Trinidad and Tobago from working with Venezuela’s state-owned oil company PDVSA on the export of natural gas.

He said the region and by the extension the US would stand to benefit from the decision.
