A WOMAN from Arima was stabbed and burnt to death on Friday evening.
Amanda Leed, 33, of Ajim Baksh Street, Malabar was found dead at around 4.55pm by police officers.
Police reported that around 4.45pm, first responders, responded to a wireless transmission from Police Command Centre of a woman screaming at Ajim Baksh Street, Malabar, Arima.
Upon arrival at the scene some ten minutes later, they observed a pink house on the street on fire. With the help of neighbours the fire was extinguished. Upon entering the apartment and making further checks in a bedroom located on the northern side, they observed the burnt, lifeless body of the deceased lying face down under a metal bed frame with what appeared to be stab wounds to her back.
A relative was questioned and the body was viewed by the District Medical Officer, pronounced dead and ordered removed.
Later, around 10:30pm as a result of information received, police officers from the Inter Agency Task Force, Duncan Street Post went to the Accident and Emergency Department at the Port-of-Spain General Hospital.
They identified themselves to a 38-year-old patient, also of the same address who was a seeking medical attention for burns to his arms and torso. The patient was told of the report above and was cautioned, and he remained silent.
The suspect remains under police guard at the hospital awaiting further treatment.
“Bossy” shot by police
A man known as “Bossy” who allegedly opened fire on police officers was shot and was later pronounced dead at the Chaguanas District Health Facility. The 25-year-old was a priority offender from Walcott Lane, Enterprise.
Police reports are that the shooting incident occurred during an anti- crime exercise was conducted during the hours of 10.30am and 4pm on Friday.
The exercise was led by Sgt John of the Central Division Task Force North and supervised by Ag Cpl Singh and Ag Cpl Samaroo. Based on intelligence gathered, the officers proceeded to Tobago Road, Enterprise where upon arrival, officers alighted from the police vehicles and was greeted with gunfire from a man known as Moses Walcott aka ‘Bossy’. He ran into a bushy area along Maraj Trace, Enterprise off Tobago road. Officers pursued and there was an exchange of gun fire in which Walcott was shot. He was rushed to the Chaguanas District Health Facility where he was pronounced dead. One black beretta pistol was recovered on the scene with one magazine and five rounds of 9mm ammunition.
Police also reported that while at the facility, a woman who was later identified as Natalia Martin, 20, of Phyllis Lane, Enterprise was arrested for the use of obscene language, disorderly behaviour and resisting arrest.
Prison inmate dies
A prison inmate at the Maximum at Security Prison, 39, suffered a seizure at the quarantined area of the prison. The infirmary team came to his aid and under the instruction of the Prison Medical Officer Travis Mohammed, he was conveyed to the Arima Health Facility where he was pronounced dead on arrival by Dr. Isaiah Matanoro at 6:03am. Due to the scene at the MSP being that of a quarantine area, visiting was postponed as per medical advice. The body was removed and Sgt Denoon and PC Green visited the Arima Health Facility where certain information was received. PC Green is continuing enquiries.
MTS guard dies unexpectedly at primary school
And in San Fernando, around 1.15pm on Friday, Ramdeo Ramsahai, a security officer employed by the National Maintenance Training and Security Company (MTS), at St Gabriel’s Primary School, San Fernando complained about feeling unwell to the principal. He then then went to the washroom where he was found around 1.30pm sitting on the toilet slumped over and unresponsive. Police was contacted and body was removed for post mortem to be conducted at the San Fernando General Hospital.
