He was speaking at the Ministry of Health’s virtual press conference on Monday.

Demonstrating information via graphs, Dr Hinds said from October into November there has been a steady increase in the seven-day rolling average.

Referring to the weekly average he said, “There is an increasing trend that seemed to maintain itself over the past few weeks.”

He added, “This is a trend of concern.”

Dr Hinds said the number of positive cases compared to persons being tested also increased.

“That percentage has shown a bit of increase, where they hover between 25% and 30%. Previously, it has been above 30% between last week and this week. This week, data is still new. This week so far, we are approaching 40% in terms of percentage positivity of the samples tested thus far.”

The October total was higher than July, August and September total, he said and Trinidad and Tobago was already at one-third of the total from October in November.

Dr Hinds said, “We are collecting accruing cases at a faster rate and we are also seeing that percentage positivity is showing that upward trend which is also a trend for concern.”

He encouraged the population to maintain all health protocols and get vaccinated against Covid-19.
