THERE has been a progressively downward trend in Covid-19 cases since January in Trinidad and Tobago.
This is according to epidemiologist Dr Avery Hinds at the Ministry of Health’s virtual press conference on Wednesday.
Dr Hinds said, “January showed 70% levels of positivity of those who presented with symptoms and were swabbed.
“We now see we’re down to 32% of those who present and who are now testing positive for Covid-19 when swabbed.”
He said, “There were 19,650 cases in January; 16, 218 in February; and so far March we have 5,626 cases as of yesterday.
“So a downward trend was noted both in the numbers and the positivity.”
Dr Hinds added that 50 % males and 50% females had tested positive for Covid-19 through the epidemic.
He said, “The main age groups affected were those 25 to 49 years of age, which also was half of the positives we have been seeing.”
Dr Hinds added that Covid-19 fatalities were more common among older persons and those with comorbidities.
