VICTORIA county has the highest number of active Covid-19 cases in the country with 25% of the national cases.
This according to Chief Medical Officer Roshan Parasram at the Ministry of Health’s virtual presser on Monday.
Active cases per county:
- Victoria – 25.3%;
- St George Central -15.7%;
- St George West – 12.4%;
- St George East – 9.1%;
- Caroni -17.6%;
- David\St Andrew – 4.7%;
- Nariva\Mayaro-1.4%; and
- Tobago – 2%.
The CMO said a slight improvement was seen in counties such as St Andrews, St David, Nariva\Mayaro, and St Patrick.
In addition, in terms of home isolation of patients, there were 4.9% recoveries while 2.1% were transfers.
He added that 44.4% of patients were asymptomatic while 48.5% were symptomatic.
Dr Parasram maintained that diabetes and hypertension accounted for the largest cohort of comorbidities.
He said “Thirty point six percent of those infected had diabetes out of the comorbidity group while 39.2% had hypertension,” he said.
The CMO said another large group was those with asthma with 17.8%. Both the pulmonary issues and immune deficiency groups accounted for .3%, with heart disease being 1.7%.
The other comorbidity groups such as pregnancy accounted for 1.2% while the other category had 8.7%.
For those in home isolation, 52.1 % had comorbidities while 47.9% were without.
Dr Parasram added, “There was an increase in the over 80 age group which is a new trend.”
