Churches Open with 25% Capacity: Only Ten People for Christenings, Baptisms

RELIGIOUS organisations will be allowed to conduct religious meetings or services and christenings and baptisms in person from Monday.

The Ministry of Health on Saturday in a media release stated that pursuant to Regulation 3(10)(ao) of the Emergency Powers (No 2) Regulations, 2021,  Minister of Health Terrence Deyalsingh  authorises religious or ecclesiastical organisations, to conduct religious meetings or services in person, where the gathering at any place used for that purpose does not exceed 25% of the allowed capacity of the place and the religious meetings or services do not exceed one hour.

Christenings and baptisms are also allowed to be in person, but gatherings at any place used for that purpose must not exceed ten persons until further notice, the release stated.

 

The ministry noted that religious organisations could continue to conduct funeral and wedding services in person, where the gathering of persons at any place used for that purpose also does not exceed ten persons.

Such organisations and their members are also being advised to comply strictly with all the legal requirements of the Emergency Powers Regulations, 2021, the legal requirements of the Public Health  Regulations, 2021 and the public health guidelines.

The Ministry of Health stated that it will continue to monitor this development and take steps to safeguard the health of the population.
