CAL to Fly in UWI Students

CARIBBEAN Airlines (CAL) will facilitate the repartition of Trinidad and Tobago University of the West Indies (UWI) students studying in Barbados and Jamaica.

The first flight leaves the Norman Manley International Airport on Saturday and the second on Monday from Grantley Adams International Airport.

On Wednesday National Security Minister Stuart Young said that these students will be allowed to return home while the borders were closed due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

In a release on Thursday, CAL stated the through the UWI’s Campus Registrar and International Students’ Office, Caribbean Airlines was provided with a listing of all Trinidad and Tobago nationals at both the Barbados and Jamaica campuses who require travel back to Trinidad.

It added, “The airline has reached out to these students to secure their bookings on the flights scheduled to operate on Saturday 13 June and Monday 15 June.

“These are not regular commercial flights, and UWI students of Trinidad & Tobago nationality do not require individual approvals from the Trinidad & Tobago authorities for re-entry into the country; and can be facilitated on any of these Caribbean Airlines services.”

The airline is asking that the students arrive four hours before the scheduled flight departure to facilitate “sufficient time for check-in and security processes.”

Passengers will be required to wear face masks throughout the journey from check-in, at the gate and on board the aircraft, the release satted.

No meals will be served on these flights and passengers are encouraged to walk with light snacks and personal hygine items such as wipes and hand sanitisers, the release stated.
