A 24-year-old man from Brasso Seco appeared at the Arima Magistrates’ Court on Thursday charged for rape and abduction.
Police said Sunil Bhagwandeen was charged during an anti-crime exercise conducted in the district by officers of the Blanchisseuse Criminal Investigation Department on Wednesday.
The officers were on mobile patrol along the Arima/Blanchisseuse Road, when based on information, they stopped a vehicle driven by Bhagwandeen. He was arrested and charged on two outstanding warrants for rape and abduction.
Bhagwandeen was granted bail in the sum of $80,000 with a surety.
Police also reported that following Bhagwandeen’s arrest, the same officers then proceeded to the home of Curtis Janet, 48, of Brasso Seco Road, where they allegedly seized three 12-gauge cartridges.
He was also arrested and charged and appeared at the Arima Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday. Janet was granted his own bail. The matter has been adjourned to January 20.
