‘Banton’ Gets 30 Months for Stealing Bicycle, gas tank, fire cracker

A BICYCLE, brush cutter, gas tank and fire cracker were stolen by a 25-year-old.

Police reported on Thursday that Raion Charles,  of Basse Terre Village, Moruga, appeared virtually before Senior Magistrate Indira Misir-Gosine at the Princes Town Magistrates’ Court.

He was sentenced to 18 months’ for one count of larceny, 18 months’ for the next count of larceny and 30 months’ for house breaking and larceny to be served concurrently. He will therefore serve the highest sentence of 30 months.

Charles, aka “Banton” was charged on Wednesday following reports made to the Moruga Police station. The first victim reported that around 6pm on April 23, he secured his bicycle at his home. The following morning, he noticed that it was missing. He later observed the suspect riding the bicycle along the roadway.

The bicycle was returned two days later. Upon returning the item, the man was in possession of the other items which were reported stolen by the other two victims. PC Samaroo of the Moruga Police Station, conducted enquiries into the reports made by the three victims on April 23, 24 and 25.

The suspect was held and charges laid by PC Samaroo.
