WHILE some parts of south Trinidad were spared heavy rainfall on Monday, many parts of the Queen’s Park Savannah in Port-of-Spain went under water.

It was one of several areas in north Trinidad that experienced a downpour earlier today.

In Cocorite, St James and Diego Martin, traffic jams accompanied the heavy rains.

The Sangre Grande Regional Corporation reported one flood.

The ministry stated that all reported incidents will be sent to relevant authorities for assessment and dispatching relief.

Affected communities are urged to call relevant Disaster Management Units.

A riverine alert was also issued with the South Oropouche River being at 65% capacity followed by the Caroni River at 38% capacity.

In an update by the Trinidad and Tobago Meteorological Service (TTMS) at 11.29 am, the TTMS stated, “Surface convergence due to local dynamics is forecast to interrupt the sunshine in some areas to produce light to moderate showers with a medium (40% – 60%) chance for isolated thunderstorm activity from late morning into the afternoon, favouring but not confined to western areas of Trinidad. In the event of a heavy shower or thunderstorm, winds can become gusty in the vicinity and street and/or flash flooding is likely in areas so prone.”

TTMS said that the area of interest which it has been monitoring over the past several days was now just past the central north Atlantic and was heading in a general west-northwest direction.

Chances for cyclonic development have increased to 50% over the next 48 hours and 80% over the next five days.
