You live in constant fear because violent crimes are on the rise as people become more and more desperate.
There is very little sign that things will get better and as more nations place sanctions on your government, the worse things get.

There is no quality of life. Your country has nothing left for you.
What would you do?
How would you feel?
Do you stay and suffer?
Do you stay and join some rebel force to over throw the current Government that got you into this mess?
Do you risk your life and family’s lives in doing so?

I pray I never find myself in this situation. I pray that none of us Trinbagonians find ourselves in this situation, because if so, judging by the way we are treating our Venezuelan refugees, we have some bad karma ahead.
It is completely baffling to me as to how someone can see a video or a picture of cold, wet, crying children jumping out of a rickety boat onto a beach and bawl, “Send all ah dem Vene back! We eh want dem here!”
We watched Syrian refugees drowning off of the coast of Greece and cried.

We watched the United States of America cage South and Central American families in horror.
But we look at Venezuelan women and children in Trinidadian jail cells, our jail cells, and jump on our keyboards and say, “Good for them. Let dem go back and fight Maduro. Ah setta pests and bandits”
It is bewildering to me that you can see someone suffer and still spew out such vile hatred.
The issue of the Venezuelan refugee crisis is an extremely complicated and emotional one.

On one hand it would be great to be the global hero to all the down trodden and on the other hand you have to maintain the safety and security of your own citizens before you take on others.
The reality of the situation is that T&T is not equipped to handle an influx of refugees.
We do not have the financial nor infrastructural means to support it. It is unfair to expect the government to divert resources away from its own citizens to help others.

Our porous borders makes it near impossible to determine exactly how much refugees are entering the country and what becomes of them once they are here.
How many are trafficked here and forced into prostitution?
How many are gang members or have violent histories?
How many are here because they are desperate for a reasonable standard of life?
The United Nations Commission of Human Rights has its figures and our government has its own figures.
Truthfully we have not a clue and it is this lack of knowledge that is the problem.

I am not asking our government to open our borders to accept every Venezuelan. I am not asking every citizen of T&T to have no concerns or issues about the refugee crisis. All I am asking it that we try to have some empathy.
There is no need to be cruel to, talk about or treat Venezuelans as though they aren’t human beings.
You can’t jump up and say they are all criminals, because guess what? Trinbagonians are criminals too!
It can be argued that Trinbagonian criminals are worse than Venezuelan criminals, because Trinbagonian criminals carry out crimes against their own national brothers and sisters!
You can’t say all Venezuelan women are prostitutes trying to steal our men, because again some Trinbagonian women are man-stealing hoes too.

And if you are worried your man is going to horn you with some senorita, surprise, surprise he’s probably a cheating sack of manure and would horn you with anything with a heartbeat.
It is okay to not be okay with the influx of refugees because you have concerns about how our country will manage it or whether or not there is enough to go around. Just admit you are worried that you as a citizen will be placed on the back burner, instead of busting out a tired bunch of hate laced stereotypes.
Let us have some empathy. Again you do not have to agree with the situation, but you can sympathize with what these people are going through and display a little humanity rather than being a complete fool.
On a side note, if you are going to get all hostile and angry with anyone in regards to the Venezuelan refugee situation perhaps you should direct that hate towards all the Trini nationals who are running booming businesses by bringing them in illegally; especially those who are bringing in underage women to be trafficked. Just saying if you are going to be angry, direct that anger in the right place.

Mal Karma Por Tratar Mal a Los Venezolanos

Hagamos un ejercicio.
Sacuda esas manos, manténgase ágil, cierre los ojos y active su imaginación.
Quiero que se imagine a sí mismo en una situación en la que tiene que hacer cola durante horas para recoger sus raciones de comida semanales del gobierno.
