Argentina, Poland Make it to Knockout, Denmark Go Home

FRANCE were shocked by Tunisia as Groups C and D were completed on Wednesady and  Argentina outplayed Poland to top the group. Mexico beat Saudi Arabia but did not qualify. Poland occupies the second spot and will advance with Argentina. Australia will join France after narrowly edging out Denmark.

Argentina 2 vs Poland 0

Argentina finally showed up to the World Cup in style even though Lionel Messi missed a first-half penalty. They outplayed Poland with 74% possession, 23 shots on goal and 12 on target. They will face Australia in the Round of 16. Alexis Mac Allister(46th) opened the scoring after Wojciech Szczensy denied Messi from the spot with a brilliant save. Julian Álvarez (67th) secured the points with a great goal.

Argentina has had a rollercoaster of a tournament so far and are proceeding as the group winners. It was a dominant performance. Can Argentina be peaking at the correct time?

Mexico 2 vs Saudi Arabia 1

Mexico did what it had to do but it was not enough to displace Poland in the group standings. In a thrilling match Henry Martin (47th) and Luis Chavez (52nd) scored and needed a third but it did not happen as Mexico were eliminated. Mexico needed Argentina to beat Poland by three goals to qualify but like themselves, Argentina could not do it. Salem Al – Dawsari broke Mexicans hearts in the 95th minute when he scored.

Tunisia 1 vs France 0

In the upset of the day, Tunisia beat mighty France but still did not move to the next round. France had a goal ruled offside in the final minute of stoppage time and were shocked by Tunisia.

Tunisia gave their fans a victory and a goal. France played a much-changed team even though Kylian Mbappe and Antoine Greizmann both came on as substitutes. It did not help to turn the situation and France still enter the next round as group winners as they square off against Poland. Wabhi Khazri scored the only goal of the match in the 58th minute and it was all that was needed.

Australia 1 vs Denmark 0

In a match that Denmark dominated, they were unable to score any goals and are now out. Australia are into the next round for the first time since 2006 as Mathew Leckie (60th) gave them the winner. Denmark needed a win and applied extreme pressure but their lack of goals led to them crashing out of the tournament.
