TEN days after his 16th birthday, Kameel Ali died after being crushed by a gate at his home.

Ali’s head was crushed between the gate and a pole on Sunday at his home at Jagessar Street, Aranguez.

He is the only child of his parents, gardener Rishad Ali, 38, and Nalini Chunilal, 39.

His father recounted the tragic incident that killed the form four pupil of Vishnu Boys’ Hindu College.

He said his son was due to join a cricket clinic in Chaguanas but because of the heavy rains was not able to sign up.

The father and son then went to purchase boots to plant cucumbers and returned home.

When they returned home at about 9.45 am, Kameel exited out of the vehicle – a Hyundai H100 van to close the gate as his father parked in the driveway.

As he was closing the gate, it rode up on a stone, jumping the tracks.

The 12-foot gate fell on Kameel, pinning his head between the gate and a standing I-beam, that was placed to prevent the gate from falling.

Relatives rushed to get him out from under the gate and took him to Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex.

However, he was pronounced dead on arrival.

This is the third time this year, a fallen gate has caused injury to a child.

In April, a pupil of the Carapichaima East Secondary school got injured when a staff member attempted to open a metal folding gate.

In February, five-year-old girl Krystal Laloo died after a gate fell on her in Sangre Chiquito. Her cousin was also injured.
