A SIGN used by the Aranguez Taxi Association to highlight the community work it is doing has been stolen.

President of the association Ramchandra Temal said he placed it opposite the Halal BBQ on the Aranguez Main Road as the organisation was fixing a hole in half of the road caused by a leaking Water and Sewerage Authority (WASA) line.

He said the sign was placed there on Wednesday and by Thursday afternoon it went missing.

Temal said he did not know who would have stolen $1,500 reflective the sign which was sponsored by the Aranguez Hardware.

The sign that was stolen

He said his association does a lot of projects especially fixing potholes in the community and the sign was placed not only to recognise the businesses which provide materials but also to prevent vehicles from going over the piece of the road that was being repaired.

Temal also thanked Tool Time hardware for sponsoring materials as well as other businesses and residents who always support the organisation.

He said there was a large Divali celebration at Sookia Street on Divali evening where there will be many deeyas, bamboo bending, a small band, food and hamper giveaways. A Divali queen will also be crowned. The president said this was just one of the events undertaken by the association.

Temal said the stolen sign would not stop him since he was more determined now to continue the work the association was doing.

He said he has not made a report to the police since three years ago when another sign was stolen, officers told him that it was private sign and they could not do anything about that.

Temal said, “I don’t understand that. When a car is stolen isn’t that a private car.”
