MEMBER of Parliament for Tabaquite Anita Haynes has one more responsibility added to her portfolio.
That of being a wife.
Haynes, 33, tied the knot with her longtime partner, police officer Adisa Alleyne, 38, from San Fernando on Republic Day.
The momentous occasion took place at the St Benedict Roman Catholic Church in La Romaine with the reception being held at South Ranch, Mohess Road, Debe and attended to by several Opposition MPs.
Haynes posted on her social media on Tuesday, “Adisa and I are so grateful to everyone who joined us to witness and celebrate our union. So blessed are we to have an amazing village of family, friends and loved ones. We thank all our well-wishers for the outpouring of support, upliftment, wise words and encouragement.
“With excitement we look forward to this new chapter of our lives, to building on our foundation of love, unity and commitment. Our hearts are overflowing.”
Speaking to AZP News on Wednesday, she said she and Alleyne first met when she was a bridesmaid and he was a groomsman at one of her relative’s wedding many years ago and they formed a friendship.
They actually started dating in 2017 before Haynes became active in Parliament taking on her first role as an Opposition Senator in September of that year.
She became the MP for Tabaquite in 2020.
Haynes said, “Being a young MP coming into public life, that is something that you need to consider. He made that transition into public life with me. He is very supportive. He is the source of my stability and I am very grateful for that.”
Looking forward to married life, she said, this was unchartered waters for both of them and she was looking forward to the journey ahead.
The couple has postponed their honeymoon to January next year in St Lucia due to the upcoming parliamentary sessions and the Budget debate.
