AFTER the Budget next Monday, the government will proceed with naming its team members to combat crime in bilateral talks with the opposition.

The actual engagements will also take place after the budget debates are concluded, the Office of the Prime Minister stated in a social media post on Tuesday.

Describing the seven-page reply from Opposition Leader Kamla Persad-Bissessar as “voluminous”, Prime Minister Dr  Keith Rowley said he will chose to focus on what could be extracted as elements of public interest in keeping with his invitation to have bilateral talks.

Dr Rowley stated, “The Opposition’s voluminous response contains an appendix of suggested issues to which the Government will add and respond by outlining additional matters to be raised by the Government.

“When this is done there will then be an agenda of work for the suggested eight-person committee. The Government will ignore all fictional inclusions and engage with the Opposition on the facts and possibilities of all the identifiable situations.”

By letter dated September 16, Dr Rowley suggested that teams be formed from both sides to discuss crime fighting initiatives.

  1. For any progress to be made…Minister of National Security must be replaced forthwith. Failure to so do will cause a collapse of the process before it start.
