THE World Health Organization (WHO) has suggested the increasing infections among young people is contributing to a recent spike in Covid-19 cases in Europe.

According to the BBC, WHO’s Regional Director for Europe, Dr Hans Kluge, said, “We’re receiving reports from several health authorities of a higher proportion of new infections among young people.”

  • These are some of the European countries that have seen a rise in cases among young people in recent weeks:
  • The Netherlands has reported higher infection rates among younger age groups than older age groups in recent weeks
  • In France, officials in Brittany blamed local outbreaks on people aged 18 and 25, saying they do not follow distancing measures as closely as others
  • In the Spanish capital Madrid, Regional Government Head Isabel Díaz Ayuso spoke on the behaviour of young people saying, “They are endangering neighbours but also their academic and working future”
