Minister Praises Municipal Police

THE Minister of Rural Development and Local Government Kazim Hosein is commending the members of the Point Fortin Municipal Police and the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) for the role they played in apprehending a suspect who attempted to kidnap a student on Wednesday.

In a release, Hosein said, “This is indeed good news. Well-deserved commendation to the Municipal Police and the TTPS attached to the borough of Point Fortin. This joint effort is exactly what we need in order to ensure that our citizens, particularly our children, are kept safe from predators and unwanted harm.”

Reports indicated that around 8 a.m. on Wednesday, a Standard Three student of the Fanny Village Government School was the target of an attempted abduction.

The release stated that the ten-year-old student was walking along the Guapo, Cap-de-Ville Main Road in Point Fortin when a black van driven by a man stopped and attempted to pull the pupil into the vehicle.

The release stated “An alarm was raised by a by-stander causing the man to return to his vehicle and hurriedly flee the scene. Witnesses accompanied the victim to the Fanny Village Government School where WPC Thomas Rouse of the Point Fortin Police Station conducted an interview and received information which proved critical to the investigation.

“The victim and her mother were taken to the Point Fortin Police Station where an official report was made. Officers of the Point Fortin Municipal Police Station continued investigations, reviewed camera footage and a short while later, as a result of their earnest efforts, arrested the suspect… a 23-year-old male of Cap-de-Ville, Point Fortin.

“A black Isuzu pick-up van which is believed to be the vehicle used in the attempted kidnapping was found and seized. The suspect, along with the vehicle, were handed over to officers of the Point Fortin Police Station, as officers continue to probe the matter.”

The release stated that the exercise was coordinated by Senior Superintendent Santana and supervised by WPC Superintendent Fortune, Inspector Carter and included Sergeant Singh, Corporal Dalip, WPC Charles, PC Scott and other officers of the Point Fortin Municipal Police Station.
