$3.5M Weed Seized, 7 Arrested

POINT Fortin Municipal Police Officers seized $3.5 million worth of marijuana and a firearm and ammunition, during mobile patrols on Sunday and Monday.

Seven suspects were arrested in connection with the seizures.

Around 9.33 am on Sunday, acting Cpl Persad and Point Fortin Municipal Police Officers observed a blue Toyota Fielder wagon dangerously overtaking traffic and driving at a high rate of speed, while on mobile patrol along Southern Main Road, Guapo.

Persad became suspicious of this action and pursued the vehicle, which they intercepted a short distance away, in the vicinity of theĀ  Guapo landfill.

When the officers searched the vehicle, in the presence of both occupants, they found six crocus bags containing a total of 270 blocks of marijuana, which was later weighed and amounted to 147.5 kilograms. A 40- year-old taxi driver and a 41-year-old farmer were arrested for Possession of Marijuana for the Purpose of Trafficking and the officers seized the illegal narcotics.

Also, around 2 am on Monday, Persad and Point Fortin Municipal Police Officers observed a blue Ford Ranger vehicle proceeding in the vicinity of Dunlop Roundabout, Point Fortin. They attempted to stop the vehicle, which tried to evade them, however, it was intercepted a short distance away. When the officers searched the vehicle, they found one black revolver with six rounds of .38 Spl ammunition. Five suspects, four men from Marabella aged 35-41, and a 38- year-old man from San Fernando were arrested for Possession of Firearm and Ammunition and taken to the Point Fortin Police Station.

Meanwhile, around 2 am today in the Central Division, the Central Division Task Force (CDTF) 02 and 03, led by Cpl Wellington, together with the Blue Line Support Staff and members of the Trinidad and Tobago Regiment, executed a search warrant for firearms and ammunition at a residence located at Singh Ave, Factory Road, Chaguanas, based on information received and surveillance conducted. During the search, officers proceeded to a downstairs room, where they found two hydroponic tents. Upon further examination, they also found 68 marijuana plants, together with 48 seedlings, fertilizers, garden tools, and a professional hydroponic system, which included lights and fans. \

One man was detained and was taken to the CDTF base along with the seized items for further enquiries.
