FIRE has broken out at popular supermarket Persad D Food King in Rio Claro leaving the town in without electricity.
The fire occurred at around 12 noon at the rear end of the building that is under construction.
Neil Ramdath, manager for Mayaro’s MP’s office, told AZP News that there were no fire trucks at the Rio Claro Fire Station and equipment had to be sourced from Mayaro and Princes Town.
With the amount of smoke coming out of the fire, the main shopping area of Rio Claro was without current.
He said the fire officers along with the other relevant agencies including the Trinidad and Tobago Electricity Commission (T&TEC) were currently at the scene.
No one was injured Ramdath said.
