IF Trinidad and Tobago doesn’t get down its daily Covid-19 cases then it could record one death per day.
This was the statement made by Minister of Health at a press conference at the Diplomatic Centre in St Ann’s on Saturday.
Head of Epidemiology at the Ministry of Health Dr Avery Hinds said the current average cases per day in T&T was in the 50s.
He said after a 35% decrease in cases on a week by week comparison, that figure seems to also be falling to 22% and 12% in the last two weekly comparisons.
Dr Hinds said 1.7% of the patients infected with Covid-19 in T&T died.
Deyalsingh said, “The caseload is about 50 a day… if we don’t get that down we will be stuck with about one death per day.”
Referring to people following the Covid-19 protocols, Deyalsingh said, “We are not doing too badly but we can do better.”
He implored people to wear masks, maintain social distancing and stay home if ill.
Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley said, “We are in pretty much a steady state in the last few days. We have seen some decline. But that is no reason to drop our guard.”
He said, “We trying to move back to some semblance of normalcy without being too eager to do that.”
Dr Rowley said to relax measures now that would lead to another lockdown would be “cavalier.”
