THE Trinidad and Tobago Electricity Commission (TTEC) says it has deferred the disconnection of 87% of residential customers who were due for such action.

It comes after Oropouche MP Dr Roodal Moonilal described the commission as “heartless and brutal” after cutting off its service to poor and vulnerable people.

TTEC stated that its decision was in recognition of the social and economic impact of the Covid-19 virus.

The commission stated that it has kept service centres opened to allow customers to pay bills.

It acknowledged that some customers may experience delays in accessing their cashers due to social distancing.

It also stated that customers who were not financially impacted during this time to continue to pay their bill on time.
