Letter from UDECOTT to Livin’ Trini

MARACAS – LIVIN’ Trini, the entity that rents chairs and umbrellas on Maracas Beach, has been told to cease operations by the Urban Development Corporation of Trinidad and Tobago (UDECOTT).

A letter dated July 25 from UDECOTT stated, “Please be advised that all Chair Vendors are to cease operations until further notice, with immediate effect.”

The letter was posted on the Facebook page of Livin’ Trini with a caption, “Please be guided accordingly. This does not include Tyrico or Las Cuevas Rentals. No, we do not know when this expires. No, we have not been given a reason. Yes, I’m confused.”

But a number of people posted comments saying they were happy that the rental chairs were removed.

Jean-Marc Rampersad said, “Great news! Y’all spoil the beach, have the youth hustling and with war with the competitors.”

While Mark Mathura posted, “Honestly I feel like the chairs and umbrellas rental should have a certain area for it and not occupy most of the beach. There are families who can’t afford the $100+ you would pay for a chair and umbrella.”
