NATIONAL Security Minister Stuart Young says that Trinidad and Tobago has a very strong relationship with the Unites States of America.
He was responding to a question in the Senate on Wednesday raised by Opposition Senator Wade Mark.
The national security minister said, “I’d like to put it on record that the United States continues to be one of our strongest allies, we continue to have open channels of communication with them.”
Mark raised the issue following a Guardian report that stated that the US embassy has said that TT breached the Rio Treaty by giving permission to Venezuela Vice President Delcy Rodriguez into the country on March 27. TT borders were closed on March 23 to fight the Covid-19 pandemic.
Young reiterated TT’s position of non-intervention and non-interference in Venezuela’s affairs.
He said he had spoken with the United States Ambassador to TT last week and no such issue arose.
