NATIONAL Security Minister Stuart Young is distancing himself from a police raid on the Express newspaper on Wednesday afternoon.
The raid follows the publication of a Sunday Express article stating that Assistant Commissioner of Police Irwin Hackshaw has been flagged by three financial institutions for close to $2 million in suspicious activity.
Sources said the raid lasted just over two hours and was conducted by officer of the Financial Intelligence Bureau.
In a release hours after, Young said he had seen reports about what appears to be a Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) search of a media house.
The minister said he has not been provided with any information on this action of the TTPS. He added that he was neither briefed about it.
He said, “I believe in the protection of the freedom of the press as well as the principle of media responsibility and would not condone a breach of either of these two principles.”
Young added, “I await the information surrounding this development.”
