THE second stage of the Covid-19 vaccination rollout begins on Monday (May 3) in 29 sites across Trinidad and Tobago.
The Ministry of Health has added two large facilities in the University of Trinidad and Tobago campus at Munroe Road in Chaguanas under the North Central Regional Health Authority and the Southern Academy of the Performing Arts under the South West Regional Health Authority.
This was revealed by Minister of Health Terrence Deyalsingh at the virtual presser on Saturday.
He said it was going to be an appointment system and discouraged people from walk-ins.
Deyalsingh said there would also be appointments via WhatsApp and advised people to only send one message.
This second stage came about after Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley on Thursday said that the country will use all the AstraZeneca vaccines it had for first doses and then wait for more from the COVAX facility for second doses.
A release by the Health Ministry on Saturday stated that people eligible to receive the vaccine were:
- Healthcare workers;
- The elderly (60 years and over); and
- Persons between 60 and 18 years of age with non-communicable diseases (NCDs).
The ministry noted that those who should not get the vaccine were:
- Pregnant and breastfeeding women;
- Children and persons younger than 18 years of age; and
- People with a history of severe reactions to a component in the vaccine
It stated that people with comorbidities (e.g. heart disease, hypertension, diabetes, cancer) should consult their physician before taking the Covid-19 vaccine.
The release stated that eligible persons who have already requested an appointment via the designated phone or WhatsApp number will be contacted by the relevant RHA.
