A 53-year-old University of the West Indies lecturer is on $15,000 bail after being slapped with seven charges following a domestic dispute at his home on Saturday.
Wayne Munroe, of Fairley Street in Tunapuna, appeared virtually before Magistrate Indra Ramoo-Haynes at the Arima Magistrates’ Court, on Monday.
He is charged with:
- Possession of firearm to endanger life;
- Possession of ammunition to endanger life;
- Three counts of shooting with intent to do grievous bodily harm,
- Two counts of exposing a child to danger.
Munroe was also instructed by the magistrate to vacate the premises at Fairley Street, Tunapuna, refrain from communicating with the virtual complainant, stay 100 meters away from the complainant and her children and to report to the Tunapuna Police Station every Wednesday between 6am to 6pm.
The charges stem from a domestic dispute at his home on Saturday (June 19).
PC Payne of the Gender Based Violence Unit was detailed to investigate. Based on investigations conducted, Munroe was arrested on Sunday and his firearm together with 16 rounds of 9 millimetre ammunition were taken away.
The investigation was spearheaded by acting Supt Claire Guy-Alleyne, Insp Stanley and PC Payne.
Munroe will reappear again on July 19.
