THE US Embassy in Port-of-Spain is now accepting US passport and US passport card renewal applications by mail.

It is being done by the US Embassy Consular Section through its American Citizen Service Unit (ACS Unit).

In a media statement on Tuesday, the US Embassy Consular Chief Cindy Diouf said, “We’re excited to be able to offer this fantastic new convenience for the thousands of citizens and dual nationals who both visit and reside in Trinidad and Tobago. We think it will not only enable additional social distancing mechanisms during this time of Covid-19, it will also allow us to process applications in a more timely and efficient manner, for the benefit both of our staff and our US citizen customers.”

US citizens who were issued their current passport when they were age 16 or older and who have the passport in their possession will be able to use the new service to mail in their applications through TTPost.

The mail-in renewal option also can be used for citizens who require name changes on their passports, as long as all criteria are met.

US citizens should visit the US Embassy website https://tt.usembassy.gov/u-s-citizen-services/passports/ to review the qualifying criteria and for detailed information regarding preparation of the application package, including links to the DS-82 application form and fee payment instructions.

All other consular services for US citizens still require an appointment.

If persons are unable to schedule an appointment online or have an emergency, they can email acspos@state.gov before arrival at the Embassy.
