OPPOSITION Leader Kamla Persad-Bissessar is calling for unity and collaboration to help fix the problems of Trinidad and Tobago as it celebrates 61 years of Independence.
In her Independence Day message 2023, she said, “As we forge ahead, let us prioritise unity and collaboration above all else. By embracing dialogue and working across party lines, we can develop comprehensive solutions that address the concerns of every citizen. Only through such inclusive efforts can we bring about meaningful change and ensure a brighter future for generations to come.”
Persad-Bissessar said, “Today as we celebrate 61 years as an independent nation, let us come together to applaud the strength and resilience that has carried our nation through challenges and triumphs alike. As the leader of the Opposition, I share the concerns, hopes, and dreams of everyone in our beautiful twin-island nation. ”
She said there were shadows cast by high crime rates and economic hardships, but “we can overcome these hurdles together.”
Persad-Bissessar said T&T’s history was a testament to its ability to rise above adversity and shape a brighter future.
She said, “Today, as we reflect on our journey as a nation, let us draw inspiration from the tenacity of our people, the diversity of our culture, and the potential that lies within our land.”
Persad-Bissessar said, “Though times may be challenging, we must not lose sight of the countless success stories that have emerged from our communities. Our citizens’ determination to excel, innovate, and support one another is a powerful reminder that challenges cannot dim the spirit of Trinidad and Tobago. Together, we can address the root causes of crime, build a more robust economy, and create opportunities for all.
“On this Independence Day, let us rededicate ourselves to the values that make us proud Trinbagonians: resilience, compassion, and a commitment to progress. Together, we can build a nation where safety, economic stability, and hope flourish. “
